Frequently Asked Questions
What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash extensions are made from PBT fibres (Polybutylene Terephthalate) which is the same plastic fibre as a toothbrush. They are made in a factory where they are cut, curled and set and then placed into trays and shipped to suppliers.
We attach one eyelash extension to one natural eyelash using a small amount of Cyanoacrylate (adhesive) for classic, or multiple finer lash extensions fanned out for volume depending on which look you are wanting to achieve.
How long do eyelash extensions take?
Eyelash extensions are a work of art and require patience and precision when applying.
They can take anywhere from 1.5 hours to 4 hours to apply, depending on the type.
Mode Lash Studio allows 1.5 hours for a full classic set, 2 hours for a full hybrid set and 2.5 hours for a full russian volume set.
Do eyelash extensions damage your natural lashes?
If they are applied properly by a certified lash artist, you shouldn't experience any discomfort or damage.
Your lash artist should explain to you about safe lengths, thicknesses and what your natural lashes can handle at the time of your consultation.
We have a duty of care to your natural lash health and will not apply more than what is safe for your natural lashes.
How often do I need "infills"?
Eyelash extensions grow and fall out with your natural lashes.
Each natural lash is in a different stage of it's growth cycle. On average, we lose between 3-5 natural lashes per day.
Some people's lashes shed faster and they will need a fill sooner.
We have some client's that get 2, 3 or even 4 weeks out of their lashes before they need an infill.
Mode Lash Studio recommends booking 3 weekly infills.
Do eyelash extensions have to look fake?
No, of course not.
At Mode Lash Studio, we customise every set to each client.
We look at the shape of your face, and your eyes and give you lashes that compliment your facial features.
We will never apply extensions that are more than what your natural lashes can handle.
Alongside with this, if you aren't after a "full/fake" look, we can certainly do a softer set of lashes to give a more natural effect.
Again, your lash artist will discuss options with you at the time of consultation.
Can I wear mascara on my new lashes?
Mode Lash Studio doesn't recommend the use of mascara on eyelash extensions.
Oils in mascara can break down ther bonds of the adhesive and give poor retention, meaning they wont last as long.
Also, they clump the extensions together and don't look very nice.
If you are feeling like you need to wear mascara, we recommend you book an infill ASAP to top them up.
